Don’t Forget about the New OSHA Reporting Rule:
With ginning season underway in West Texas, we have seen several instances where reportable injuries have not been reported to OSHA within the new time limit. Remember that under the new rule, Employers are now be required to report all work-related fatalities within 8 hours and all in-patient hospitalizations, amputations, and losses of an eye within 24 hours of finding about the incident. The in-patient hospitalizations are the items that seem to be giving our members some difficulty. Basically, if an employee is admitted to the hospital for in-patient treatment, then the injury is reportable.
Previously, employers were required to report all workplace fatalities and when three or more workers were hospitalized in the same incident.
